Baseball playoff predictions/in-game threads

*sigh*

OK, let's post our predictions for the playoffs. I've think I have recovered enough from the devastation of last week.

AL DS:
Angels in 5 -I just don't trust the Yankees' pitching, outside of Rivera
Red Sox in 4 - People are underestimating how bad the White Sox pen is. When we were playing well - 2 weeks ago, we had confidence that we were going to score - and we did! I know Boston's pen is a mess, but I'd be scared (if I were a White Sox fan) having that bullpen up against Ortiz, Manny, etc.

ALCS: Angels in 6.

NLDS:
Cardinals in 4. SD's offense is nothing.
Astros in 5. I just don't see the Braves as the better team. Houston's pitching is too good.

NLCS: Cardinals in 7, again. The magic of Busch.

World Series:
Cardinals in 6. The superior team, from top to bottom, in all of baseball.

PS - anyone see the MNF game last night? Did you see the Car's running back - Foster? - carrying the GB safety for 30 yards?
Well, the GB player on piggyback was our good friend Earl Little. He was a starter for the Browns over the last few years. As Troy McClure (from "The Simpsons") would say:
"You might remember me from "Jamal Lewis gains 235 yards" and "Jamal Lewis gains 276 yards".

Anyway, I wasn't worried about losing him in the offseason. You can see why.

While watching the game, I also noticed how Madden has officially lost it. I was in tears during the injury late in the 2nd quarter, when he spoke of how helmets had gotten "irregularly large" and were being used as weapons, and how it wasn't a problem when helmets were smaller, and had no face masks. Sixty. years. ago.

A couple of gambling comments:

I ended up placing two wagers today.

Yanks -1.5 for +170 odds.
Sox/Sox over (9 runs)

I hate the Angels and I know that Colon will falter under the pressure. And I know that Torre understands that if they pitch around Vlad, they will take the series. As for the Sox/Sox over, I agree with Eric in that both bullpens blow, and both offenses are pretty darn good. Clement hasn't pitched a good game in weeks, and Contreras's stats are a little misleading so let the runfest begin.

So onto my predictions:
Yanks in 3
Sox in 5 (red not white)

Yanks in 7

I really hate every team in the AL playoffs. I truly hate everyone.

NL: Who cares. Everyone of these teams seem to fail every year in the playoffs. Braves, Astros, and Cards? And Eric, the magic of Busch? Um..what? What magic? LaRussa seems to always underacheive with top notch teams and always tries to overmanage so he can say that he had something to do with the win. The A's should of won 3 titles during his reign, and the Cards should have more to show over the last several years than what they have. Ugh. So I guess I'll go with:

Braves in 5
Cards in 4

Braves in 6

World Series- Yanks in 5

I *****LOVE***** the over in the SoxSox game today. it 88 degrees and humid there, Clement sucks and Contreras is our bitch.

OK, since both of my WS picks from my original predictions thread are now eliminated from the playoffs I guess I'll revise them.

NL Champs
Astros - I picked FLA and they didn't make it so I guess I'll go with the NL WC Winner

AL Champs
Angels - I think they handle the NYY. I am not a believer in Mussina, Wong, Chacon and Johnson. OK, RJ is pitching well now but he'll only start one game.

I think the RS will win the DS in 5 games but lose to LAA in 5 (to make up for the 3-1 RS comeback in 86??).

The bottom line in the AL is anybody can win it, every team has major flaws. In the NL I don't think anyone has the ability to match up with the Stros starters, but of course they have choked so many times before....

Well, the first game is now over. 8-0 in the 5th. So much for that "Jake Peavy" talk.

This is the last year for Busch stadium, so that's the magic I refer to.

Shit, Jay and I agree. This means that the sox game will be 1-0. I should also take the over in the Yanks game as well.

If the Sox game ends 1-0 I will jog to LA to congratulate you on that prediction!!

Well, I am going offline now as I have setup the game to Tivo. While I generally dislike ESPN broadcasts (without J Miller) - HD baseball is awesome! HD anything is awesome for that matter. I'd like to personally thank my lovely wife (who occasionally lurks on this space) for getting our HDTivo box for my birthday. We've had it for a week now and HD Sunday Ticket as well as baseball HD has been amazing. Watching SD channels now seems terrible once you've been spoiled.

Wow, you have Berman doing your game. That really sucks.

Oh, and I finally watched a game in HD, and it was amazing. Simply amazing.

One more prediction -

Aaron Rowand will misplay a fly ball in center in a key siuation for the White Sox.

He is shaky out there. He misplayed a few in the series against us (and Minnesota).

Holy Crap! What just happened?

I predict that AJ will hit a homer in the first.

oh, and I predict that this game is far from over. This might be a 5 hour game

What just happened? A Boston runner thrown out at third on a ground ball to 2nd?

What a craptastic start to the Playoffs!! couple things:

1. I never, EVER need a close up HD shot of Jose Contreras' face. Yikes.

2. Berman is a terrible announcer. I know this isn't a newsflash, but I am not one of those bash Berman types. I actually like him on Sunday countdown and PrimeTime. He is made to do those goofy highlight things. But 3 hours of him on a slow paced baseballl broadcast is dreadful. Of course if you Tivo a game that is 12-2 you aren't really hearing much dialogue since I am zipping between pitches.

3. Damn Clement sucks. Everyone points to the blast off his dome as the time when he started to suck, suggesting that it was that incident that caused his nosedive. The reality is he was struggling a couple starts BEFORE the beaning, and in that Tampa start people were hitting ropes off him left and right (and ultimately right up his ass). He looked lost out there yesterday. Good news is he's locked up for another couple years!!!! Yeehaw!

4. Wells needs a big game, if they can keep it close I think the Sox can score some runs off their bullpen - esp Jenks. He will blow a game in this series. Hopefully Wells didn't go on a huge bender last night at some ChiTown steakhouses and get the gout.

5. Why have Mike Piazza there??? He doesn't know anything about the AL, has no connection to either of the two cities, whats the point?? Al Leiter was outstanding last year, but that was lightning in a bottle. I don't think Piazza was Bret Boone awful, but it just seems silly to experiment with these guys for the playoffs.

6. Erin Andrews.... I'm a fan
