Movies

Extremely busy right now at work, but wanted to put out a thread here to discuss the most underrated movies over the past 20 years. Watched Rounders and Step into Liquid, which are two of my top five most underrated movies. The third-fifth movies you ask? Well, I think they would be Spartan, You Got Served, and Tears of the Sun.

Anyway, over the weekend, I'm putting together the most underrated list, along with a movie ranking system that Ben and I have been talking about during our nightly drinkfests.

So what are your most underrated movies? It can't be shit like Pulp Fiction and Godfather, since they received proper recognition. Basically it would be movies that if you stumbled upon HBO, you wouldn't change the channel if you were alone, but possibly deny ever watching it when the boys were around.

I wouldn't call an underrated movie something I would deny if questioned, but something that inexplicably didn't have the shelf life you imagined it would.

Surprising you would call Rounders an underrated movie. I've always thought it had its faithful following, and has exploded since pkoer became the national pastime.

What's Step Into Liquid? I've never heard of it. You Got Served? I'm very disappointed Zahn.

I'll agree with you on Rounders, definitely underrated. I'm not sure I can come up with 5 right now, but what about Memento? Great flick.

dude, where's my car
zoolander
ladybugs
day after tomorrow

while the top three are definitely mood movies (even though they hold a dear spot in my heart), and the last one is more of a "i thought it'd suck more" who doesn't love the thought of sir rodney with the best quote of all time...."you can even burn your bras. when ya get em."

can i add a sixth....

with a cast like Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson, how could Anaconda suck?

Good call on Zoolander. I can't believe I forgot that one.

How can we teach them to read if they can't even fit in the building?

RRD: Correct in saying that underrated would not equate to denialability. That should be two questions. Rounders is a weird movie, because when it came out (VHS Only), it was an underrated movie. Not until recent years has it become mainstream.

Dudeman: Step Into Liquid is a surfing documentary. Pretty amazing movie. It was the sequel to "Riding Giants" which also is a wonderful flick.

Zoolander and Ladybugs are both up there though.

AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO SAY THAT I ENJOY "YOU GOT SERVED"

I break out underrated movies for comedic value, and overall cinematic value.

Comedic value:
Back to School
Uncle Buck
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead
I'm Gonna Get You Sucka

Cinematic:

(none)

And my most underrated movie of all time:

Better off Dead

As an addendum, "There snakes out here this big?" was the 1997 equivalent to "Hug It Out, Bitch".

I keep telling Derek that he HAS to see "Glengarry Glen Ross", if only for the star power of the movie and the 100+ F-bombs dropped.

Anyone else seen that movie?

I'll always stop on Youngblood if it's on.

Back when I was dating, I saw a lot fo "artsy" movies - like:
Remains of the Day
The Piano

They weren't as bad as I thought!

I can't stomach You Got Served. I dread the phone call at 9:45 every other Monday night...
"Hey Eric, Guess what's on?"

I am not gonna try to date these but.

1. Something the Lord Made (sounds weird, but is a must see)

2. Little Giants

3. BMX (look it up)
