Vegas update

All set for Vegas! Don and I have booked our flights:

arriving Wed ~ 9pm or so
leaving on the red eye Sun night.

Now it's time to concetrate on basketball and separate the teams into the overrated/underrated category.
I hate to say this on this website, but one team that I think is overrated is Maryland. Look at their results - what are their road/neutral wins? Arkansas in Hawaii or Ga Tech on the road. That's it. This team can not play away from Comcast - and now with McCray done, it's going to be tough for them the rest of the way in the ACC.

Florida is another team. I looked at their schedule today - their only road win of note is @ Mia-FL. A good team, but a team that is inthe top 5 should have better numbers that than. Looking back, it's not a shock they lost their first two true road tests of the year.

I will try to post mock bracket projections each week in February. After looking at the stadnings for a short time, it's going to be awfullyhard to fill the last spots on the bubble becuase it seems there is a dearth of great at large candidates. Some midmajors have truly stood out (most of the MVC, Bucknell) that they are now considered locks. Other midmajors have slipped horribly (Nevada, Old Dominion) and have gone off the radar screen. But the big conferences (outside of the Big 10 and Big East) have failed to put forth quality teams in the middle of the pack.

Look at the SEC, or Big 12. No way that eitehr conference gets 6 this year.
The Pac 10 looks like it will return to its 3-bid ways.

The math will be very interesting this year.

MD may be overated, but they are playing better than I thought they would.

Don't say that they can't play on the road since they just started playing on the road (not saying that that is was a good scheduling decision, but just a fact).

It was hard enough going into the season without a true point guard and now without 16 points per game from McCray. (Personally I think that DJ has done a good job, but has trouble when he is pressured and McCray, until his last game against Va Tech has always been a shooter that couldn't create his own shot-ala JJ Redick, but JJ Redick created a mid-range game this year).

McCray become ineligible, although difficult, couldn't have come at a better time for the terps. Mike Jones has to learn how to play defense, Sterling Ledbetter has to gain some control and prove that he can run an offense. Luckily for the Terps, this confidence booster came on the road against an inexperienced Georgia Tech team. I'm not saying it was a great win, it was a game we should win, but it was an important game for the Terps.

Although Temple recently only scored 34 points in a game, they always play decent defense and like to slow the game down. MD's half court offense hasn't looked to bad this year (better than most of our run n gun years) so it could be a good game. Honestly, this game worried me more than Georgia Tech just because I worry about our performance against good defensive teams.

The Miami loss was a fluke. Possibly overlooking them due to playing Duke next, but also, nobody expecting Miami to shoot lights out from 3-point land (12-17).

Duke's blowout was just a poor poor performance by MD and there are no excuses for playing so bad.

Looking at our schedule/record-we are 14-4, 4-2 in conference (tied for 2nd), so 4 more conference wins has us tourney bound probably. Didn't help the ACC losing to Georgetown and Seton Hall this week.

Our Losses:
Gonzaga ranked 9th at time.
GW ranked 19th at time.
Miami-who also beat UNC and Clemson.
Duke ranked 1st at time.

I don't think those losses are too shabby.

I'm so out of touch with College. I'm not too sure what I'm going to do for the tournament.
