Interesting.....

So the top two NFL officiating crews were not doing games this weekend? Hmmmm...Why not? Eric's take is that the NFL is just stupid, while my take is that the NFL couldn't pay off the top officials, so they used shitty ones, paid for their spring vacations and tried to ensure that Indy would win. Eric says that there was only one blatant bad call in the Indy game, while I say there were three:
  • Interception called an incomplete
  • The no safety call on Manning
  • The do over play when encroachment was not called on Indy

All three plays would of sealed the game for Pitt, but they were called in favor of Indy. I know Eric will slam me on the interception call, but I still don't understand the rule. The tuck rule I understood, just thought it was stupid, but this rule doesn't make any sense, not do I think it exist. So explain away.

On a side note, spent Saturday and part of Sunday in Vegas. The New York New York installed TVs above all of their gaming tables. Excellent move. Fabulous move. I can't rave enough about this decision. Its a win win situation for everybody. I have never seen rows of blackjack tables all yell and get excited at the same time, not because all of them were winning money, but because everyone is watching the games. I can't even imagine how it is going to be during March Madness. Instead of just hearing the roar coming from the Sportsbook, you will now have it coming from every table game. I'm just waiting for a "Sportsbook Runner" to take bets from the tables, so people don't even need to get up from the tables. Looks like we will be moving away from the Monte and into the New York, now that I have a Casino Host interested in our wagering. Let's see, 14 hours of play, all on roulette (I know, I know) at about $20 per spin somehow gets the Host excited, especially when I tell them I plan on coming out every other weekend. Somehow I walked out of there only down $400, while Ben took a major hit but with a great Sunday morning run, was only down $900.

Derek,

What were you smoking during the Indy game? I didn't see the interception call, so no comment.

The safety on Manning? His feet were on the 0.5 yard line when they hit him. I believe it was the correct call.

And the encroachment call they completely blew, but the wrong way. Recall in the 1st quarter they called illegal motion on the Indy O-Line. From the replay it looks like the guy took a deep breath. Same thing happened in the 4th for Pitt, but somehow the refers decided to over look it. (either way, how can they possibly call no fowl, something happened).

The officials in the Denver-NE game sucked worse. Defensive interference at the end of the half. No way. Tough to beat the home team when they got the refs on their side.

Lookin' forward to Vegas in March.

I was only listening to the game, so my insight was slightly skewed by announcers who were crying after all of these calls.

Well, I watched the game and didn't complain all that much.

Manning's sack/safety was a good call by the refs for he wasn't in the endzone.

I can't believe the rule on the int due to its explanation (if it is in the rulebook than ok, but). It was ruled not an int due to the fact that the defenders one knee was still on the ground when he lost the ball. He wasn't ruled down because he wasn't touched by any Indy player and I thought he clearly had control of the ball when he was trying to get up.

I blame the encroachment call on Benny R. If the refs didn't call anything than why did they run to the middle of the field. When Indy was complaining about a false start, Benny should of had the center hike the ball. The no touch by the indy defense would have clearly been a now offsides or encroachment.

I didn't watch the Patriots game so I have no comment.

This is well off the subject but needed somewhere to add it.

DZahn,

I watched many football games so far in January and so far have seem multiple times where 2 offensive players moved at the same time. ie. Since the Offense has to have so many people on the line and so many off, when a receiver (TE) moves up to the line of scrimmage in motion, and the WR steps back off the line.

So, although no one else will really care, but...my one play in Madden 06 is perfectly legal.

Yeah, I saw it too. You are right. I'm wrong.

And I'm finally right for once!!! The NFL came out and stated that they made the wrong call on the interception.

Apparently, the rule that the referree used was NOT in the rule book. That's why the NFL corrected it.

By the way - about my first point -the three bestcrews in the NFL are led by these three head refs:
1. Ed Hochuli (aka "Guns")
2. Mike Carey (aka "Malice", for you Ravens fans)
3. Bernie Kukar (aka "First Donn", with respect to his accent).

I will bet that 2 of those three crews will be doing the Championship games and/or the Super Bowl.

And not one of those crews did a game last weekend. Unbelievable.
