Boy, am I behind here on the blog. I've got to tally the final results for the Eric-Derek showdown (which I guess Derek won by 1 or 2 games; final results to be posted later).
But before we begin, a quote from Sen. Ted Kennedy on Samuel Alito (from the Washington Post):
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), hosting a morning roundtable with reporters, had nothing nice to say about Alito. "We here in the United States are not going to stand for monarchial tyranny," he said, protesting Alito's support for "unfettered, unlimited power of the executive." He faulted Alito for belonging to a group that was "anti-black and also anti-women." Kennedy wondered if "the average person is going to be able to get a fair shake" under Alito. "This nominee was influenced by the Goldwater presidency," he said. "The Goldwater battles of those times were the battles against the civil rights laws."
1) Can someone please tell me when the Goldwater presidency was?
2) Alito was 14 when Goldwater was at his political height. So I guess it is possible that a 14-year old was influenced by the political topics of the day.....but highly implausible.
Stay off the Martinis before press time, Senator.
My picks for today remain the same as they were 2 days ago:
Car 24, NYG 20
Cin 31, Pit 27
Best bets:
Car +3
Cin +3
Cin/Pit over 47
