Thank you Wiz for that great post which basically sums up everything in a nice neat package. Good trip overall, but I think we were one heavy gambler shy this trip. Nothing bad about the guys on the trip, but we were probably one guy short. Maybe it was all of the stupid golf. Maybe it was all the poker. I don't know. Here are some of the missing comments on the trip.
My budget: Wow, it actually worked. While I was down for the trip, it wasn't that bad. Putting a daily cap on sportsbetting probably saved me several hundreds of dollars. I wanted to give you a detailed breakdown on the budget, but Carol ended up washing my book and now it is a pile of mush.
Rooms: Pretty crappy room at the Mirage. Very small bathroom and small beds. This brings me to my next point. Why do we all cramp 4 to a room? I'm assumming with the guys that went on this last trip, everyone's income is in the 6 figures. If so, then why do we do this to ourselves. I mean poor Micah was sleeping on a cot and I was sleeping with Don. Don't get me wrong, he was the perfect bed mate during the trip. Didn't snore, stayed on his side of the bed, and always had a funny story at night to put me back to sleep. I know, I know...it sounds very gay. That's why I left out the fact that he doesn't wear a shirt to bed. But still, I don't want to sleep in the same bed with another grown man.
Red Rock Casino- Went out there with Dick on Thursday and was amazed by how nice it was. Nice dealers, cocktail waitresses and pit bosses. Flat screens by the table games, and a very nice sportsbook. Plenty of decent resturants as well. We ended going back out there on Friday evening with Eric, Mike, and Kevin and rolled craps for close to 2 hours. I have never done that before. We started rolling at a $10 table at the start of the Texas game and didn't stop until a couple minutes left. The guy next to me bet the don't pass line the entire time and when it was his turn to roll, I asked him "Are you really going to bet against yourself?" He responded with "No, I'm betting with the dice" Ok then, I'll leave you alone from now on. First time for a couple of things at the craps table:
1. Actually had a purple chip in my chip stack.
2. On my end of the table the dealers had 6 stacks of chips- Yellow, Purple, Black, Green, Red, and Ones. I've never seen Yellow out as an option for the dealer to use. I had not one, but two guys chucking around blacks and purples on my end. Pretty crazy.
Blackjack- Just an enjoyable time playing $25 and $50 BJ and that got rid of all of the bad players. I only had one bad player and I just got up and left and then watched him melt. I will tell you that on Saturday night I wanted to stay out even later than I did, but I was falling asleep while playing 25 BJ. And I was trying out Wiz's press thing and was up to a $200, and I was having trouble keeping my eyes open. Do you know how bad that is?
Nuggett: With Pai Gow by the pool and the convention room large enough to hold everyone, the Nugget is a pretty cool place. I would stay here if they would import some Russian girls just to spruce up the place. Even by the pool I think we only saw one semi attractive girl. But we did see Godzilla which was nice.
Mesa Grille: Not good at all. The steak was OK, but just blah. We need to pick a new place. Also, I was extremely disappointed about not playing credit card roulette. Piss poor showing on Eric's friends part.
Guys that need to make the trip next year to make sure that it doesn't get too boring:
1. Jay D- Missing a little too many trips recently, but I know his heart is still with us. Needs to get out to Vegas next year. There really isn't a better guy to get drunk with and play any table games. 2. Lee- Part of the original group of hardcore gamblers with Jay D and I and was sorely missed. Might be the only guy worse than me at the sportsbook. 3. Ben- Roulette junkie that drinks way too much. Always a chance he could roll up to the room with either a smoking hot 40 year old married chick or a 12 year old boy. 4. Kermit-See Ben's comment and substitute Roulette with Slots, and 12 year old boy with hooker. Always has a place in my heart for introducing me to Bleu Cheese Olives. 5. Carol- Would want her to be there if it wasn't an all guys trip now. She is already telling me that she is in for next year. 6. Laura- Same thing. Both of these women would be an excellent addition to the group. 7. Robbie/Ghettor- These two are bad news but they are so much fun. Drunk 90% of the time and only like to gamble at the slum casinos. Once stole a magician's chest from the Plaza and couldn't cash in a winning ticket because they were caught on camera. Ended up dumping the chest back at the Plaza in the Valet line.

Damn, do I wish I was out there with everyone. I know we are already planning on making a triumphant return in '08. Book it! :)
Things I learned in Vegas…
1) Don’t kick a chair wearing flip flops. Thanks Micah.
2) The Mirage Poker room is below average. Crusty dealers (and if I hear them complain about how noisy and crowded the casino is one more time …note to the staff, a quite casino is a dead casino)
3) If you ever get a poker room rate, make sure Saran is staying with you. Had we selected this option, I think he cleared the required 28 hours after only 36 hours in Vegas. He was dedicated.
4) The Venetian Poker Room is much nicer and has good dealers. One exception, the dealers will not get involved in a hand. You must challenge string bets, request decisions, etc. In other words, know what you are doing, or don’t go in.
5) I really like the Mirage (other than the poker room). But they need a 24 hour coffee shop (why does this store ever close). The pool rocks.
6) Speaking of Saran, I think we’ve officially corrupted him. He now thinks that $15 craps is a lay-up and will press relentlessly at $25 Pai Gow.
7) Wiz is a playa on the course.
8) Bears Best – Average, Royal Links – good course, but Management Sucks Ass. They hustled us on the course with beat the Pro. Lesson Learned.
9) I like sleeping with Derek (although, apparently, this is the last time that will happen). He likes the room cold, stays on his side, leaves the TV on and asks how the night went before I zonk out. Very thoughtful. With the exception of dinner on Thursday, the only time I saw Derek was in the room – we were on completely opposite schedules. And yes, I do not sleep with a shirt on, I just can’t do it.
10) I’m getting old. My body still hurts from a lack of sleep.
11) I hate Xavier (thanks for blowing the spread in both games).
112) Lady Boilers are still a lay-up :-)
After reading my post again, let me clear up a few things.
1. I don't have anything against the guys that played golf or poker. I'm just saying that I really didn't get to see the guys that played either one. I was one of those guys before and I decided not to play this year and I was stuck playing by myself some of the days. No biggie, just would of liked to play some more with the guys that came on the trip.
2. The list of people that I want to come are in addition to and not replacement of the people that went on this trip. I have no problems with anyone that came on the trip.
3. The Mesa Grille- Was I upset. No. Disappointed...yes. And I wasn't the only one. Eric and Don vouched for the new guys and I would of thought that they explained what happens at these dinners. Do I hate them for not playing? Of course not. Did it ruin my trip? No. But at that time I was a little pissed and I hold it against Don and Eric and not Kevin, Saran, or Mike.
4. Is it bad for me to feel disappointed because I didn't get to gamble with everyone more? I liked the guys on the group and I wish we could of all gambled more together. Eric called me and stated that I was calling people out on the trip for being boring. That is not the case at all. At times when I'm gambling by myself I get bored and want to make sure that doesn't happen again. Why was I gambling by myself? It wasn't because Wiz, Micah, Don, and company were dicks. Its because we happened to be playing different games or golfing.
