Engagement Party

What is this crap? I can only remember one engagement party, and that was just a bunch of us getting together, playing poker and getting drunk. The presents consisted of liquor in non plastic bottles.

But anyway, where does the party rank amoung the other pre-wedding items like the bachelor party and the bridal shower. Do they get presents? Is it family only? Does anyone need to give a speech? Where is Dr. Laura when you need her?

Dr. Laura, 12-3 pm on LA's talk leader, KFI-AM, 640.

I have never heard of a formal engagement party - is this with couples? This is definitely 3rd on your list, below the other 2 parties.

Maybe I should of worded this better. I'm not against an engagement party, just confused on what it is and what needs to be done.

having been the uninterested participant of one of these myself (my inlaws and one of the wife's friends planned it), i suggest you show up and have a good time. that's it. nothing more. its so rare that large sets of friends get together just to hang, that it was a pleasant surprise. go. without a present. but do take a sidecar liver for heavy liquor consumption.

and having learned about this party through a blog, i'm hurt. unless the reference to "john and suze" in another post actually refers to people that don't include the idiot that collects every yankee article known to man and/or the woman who once forced shrooms on me shortly before you moved to LA.

INTERNET EMOTION FILTER: THIS WAS ENTIRELY AN ATTEMPT AT HUMOR...THE STEEL CITY HAS HARDENED MY BALLS AND I AM IN NO WAY OFFENDED BY THE LACK OF INVITE. I'M BUSY IN MARCH ANYWAY.
