FedEx Cup = Joke

All summer long I've ignored all the lame comments about the PGA's FedEx Cup and players chasing points. Secretly, I was hoping it would go away. It didn't.

I decide to to do a bit a research and understand more about the system hoping it wasn't as lame as I thought it would be. I was wrong. At the end of the day, this a way for the top dogs to get richer. #123, whoever that might be has very little chance.

Reasons why this is lame.

1) This is billed as the "playoffs." However, there were 9 players that made the cut last week that aren't playing this week. Someone tell me how you finish in the top half of a tournament, which is billed as the "playoffs," and then don't get to play the following week.

2) Tiger finished the regular season with ~30,000 points, 2nd place was at ~19,000. After the adjustment to start the "playoffs", Tiger has 100,000, 2nd place 99,000. I hope no one is confused as to whom the best golfer was this season ...and why not make it 1,000,000 points to start with, that sounds much more impressive than a measely 100,000 pts.

3) Tiger didn't play round 1 (and Ernie isn't playing round 2). Finchen claims that his models show you have to play in all 4 to have a chance to win. Apparently, Tiger's model says something different.

4) The big money is differed, so how does the caddie get paid? I've read quotes for more than one player that stated ...well, I guess I'll pay him when I get the money, which might be in 15 or 20 years. Ya, thats a good plan. Your caddie has no health care, no retirement plan, you can fire him tomorrow for no reason and he pays his own travel expenses. Here is an idea, pay him now or carry your own bag (like us amateurs do) you lazy jerk.

5) According to Golf Week, there is only a 10% chance that someone outside the top 15 wins the "playoffs." The current 15th rank player earned $2,450,000 this year. how does one survive on that. (note, I have no argument with giving the regular season champ an advantage, but this is really one sided).

Wow, thats enough for now.

you know what? fuck society. i don't care about the fedex cup. i don't care about the nextell cup....especially that stupid "race to the cup" bullshit reset this sounds like. revenue sharing is stupid. draft lotteries equally so. wild cards, while making a long ass baseball season more exciting down the stretch are bullshit (says the guy who hasn't sniffed a pennant race since '89). what the fuck happened to winning the division outright?

everyone gets a trophy.

what the hell happened to pure and simple domination? why the need to create parity or a false sense of it (as with this type of bullshit)?

we're getting collectively dumber as we figure out ways to castrate those that are fittest to survive.

$2.5MM for being the 15th best golfer this year? and virtually no chance at winning the cup? fuck him. he made over 2 mil for playing a fucking game. i should fed ex a mold of my cock to him so he can choke on it.

vick gets the book thrown at him and ostracized for having a dog fighting ring. granted, rape stands are rape stands. but there are assholes that get to have paid leaves of absence for dragging their wives down the street. its a damn shame what happened to those dogs, but fuck...they are dogs. we'd get fucked over like that too if we weren't top of the food chain.

our society has no balls anymore. and when we do, its over some bullshit celebrity scandal or in regards to a man who'd prefer to see dogs fight instead of watching UFC787. same principle, really. its just a matter of making the choice to put yourself in the ring as opposed to being a dumb animal (no matter how smart, loving and adorable some breeds are) that licks its own asshole to clean itself.

fuck people. i'm officially on derek's side now. i hate people.

Um..... wow.

So anyone seen any good movies lately?

During a trip to Vegas, Steve's broher wore a short that said, simply:

"Fuck you, you fucking fuck"

I think I need to buy at least 5 of them for some of the commenters here on this blog.

Where to start? First, I have no problem with the 15th best golfer getting $2.5MM. But the cup is bull crap.
I read in golfweek that one of the players compared the "playoffs" to the NHL, saying:

"People pick on the NHL because over half the teams make the playoffs.

What do we have here? Only 125 of is are retaining our cards for next year - and 144 make theplayoffs. What is that, 110% of the people make the playoffs?'

He's got a point.

And secondly - why can't I work for Finchem? I want a phone call from teh PGA Tour:

"Mr Eric Zahn? Please develop a mathematical model for the playoffs that will screw Tiger over if he skips an event..."

I should send my resume in....

And the caddie payment is bullcrap.

And Courier - you've got some good points about Vick and Society. People are interested in Vick/Britney/Lindsey/wide toilet stances to care at all about spousal abuse, health care and other complicated rpoblems.

But those are hard - I want what's easy. That's the American way.

Regardless of the result of the FedEx Cup, Tiger is the POY. The 'playoff' concept can't succeed unless with winner of the FedEx Cup is POY.

Between the FedEx Cup, the World Golf Championship Series, etc., there is too much additional garbage. Majors are majors, plain and simple. I'd be interested if the WGCS and FedEx Cup found some way to merge. Otherwise, who cares?
