From The Economist: (the Dec 22 issue):
Today poker is the third most watched sport on cable television in the United States, after car racing and American football, trumping even NBA Basketball.
Is this really true? The word "cable" that snuck in there may have some big meaning, but still....this means poker beats Sunday Night baseball in ratings, beats any NCAA Basketball game that ESPN puts out there, and certainly beats any 1st/2nd round coverage of golf events.
Wow. This certainly explains a lot.
