News about our teams

Two serious items about teams followed closely on this blog:

1. Aaron on Hardball Times has this to say about the A's:

At the end, he states that the A's would most likely dump the "non-essential" parts to this year's team.
My question for A's fans: Jason Kendall would have to be #1, no? Or is he #1a next to Dotel?

2. NFL News never stops: Boulware is coming to Cleveland this week:

As most of you know, I bleed orange and brown. Now I know he's 30, and has some injury problems..... but when you current starting outside LBs are Matt Stewart and Chaun Thompson (who hails from the great West Texas A&M), any possibility of an upgrade is exciting.

I'll comment on the A's since people still seem to be confused on the state of the A's. Just because someone makes a decent size salary, does not mean that they will be on the trading block. It has been made clear by Beane that Kendall is a part of our future. He will not be traded. When this team becomes competitive again, he will only cost the A's $6 million. And even if the A's were to trade Kendall, I just don't see a market out there for a catcher that is only throwing out 20% of the basestealers and slugging .295. The top list of players that they want to move will be:

1. Duarzo- sizeable contract but can only play DH. Currently on the DL.
2. Dotel- sizeable contract, but will probably be out for a couple of more months.
3. Hatteberg- small contract, but is not producing.
4. Brynes- small contract, but can't hit righties to save his life. He trade value peaked back in spring training, and we could of had Mike Gonzalez from the Pirates, but Beane balked. Trade value now has plummeted.
5. Zito- I still like Zito and don't want him to be traded. We will need him as a number 2-3 starter next year.

So we really don't have much to offer. Beane has to weigh the trade offers for Dotel, Duarzo, and Hatteberg and compare that to the draft compensation we would get in return if we let them leave via free agency.

With that being said, the A's have won 2 in a row and look great with Crosby and D. Johnson in the lineup.

As far as the Browns go, I think Boulware will be a great pickup.

Browns comments:

Why does Boulware get tagged with being injury prone? He has only gotten injured once in his career. Granted it was for the entire 2004 season, but still, he has been able to stay healthy for most of his career. This would be a great pickup.
